Dyslexia Schools Independents

Hi. We are selecting a senior schools for 2022 or maybe an earlier move for the right school. Son with Dyslexia and associated conditions including anxiety which drives his Dyslexia to severe when heightened. No self confidence, self belief destroyed by the previous Prep school and no real desire to learn. He expects to fail now but is bright and holding on to bottom end of his year group - yr 8 from September.
I'm looking at Bruern Abbey and a couple of others. Do you have any current feedback please about Bruern and or any other Dyslexia schools within 2 hours drive from the Middle of England please? I'm looking for homely, maybe quirky and very understanding plus the ability to help his achieve his true potential. Its a huge decision but I can't stop thinking that he would benefit from not feeling different and the impact that has on his anxiety/Dyslexia. He is keen to take a look

Hi OP
Bruern Abbey was amazing when my DS went there a few years ago. I can't tell you what the senior school is like, unfortunately, because it is destined to open for September 2022, though you have prob found that our for yourself by now, sorry!
Being among an all dyslexic peer group benefitted my DS hugely, tho he is now back in mainstream, which was BA's original objective for its prep school pupils.
Without wishing to be offensive, Bruern has always been the only specialist school for academically able dyslexics, although Millfield was of course originally set up for dyslexics, too?
Good luck with your search.

Thank you Motorcyclemptiness for your experience on Bruern.
We didn't have the benefit of early diagnosis (he was able to mask his challenges well until year 6) so CE is being taken in a local Public school. Bruern say they specialise in building self esteem/confidence . It sounds perfect. We have a shortlist of 3 schools. All unique in their own way but all offering the ability to maintain school/home balance. Millfield would be a drive too far for us to have weekends at home. Its good to hear a success story, pleased to hear your DS benefited from the environment. Thank you
