ADHD assessment path

I strongly suspect my nearly 7 year old to have ADHD. We've spoken to the health visitor a few times years ago who brushed it off as our parenting. It's not. What is the next step? I'm terrified to go to the GP and have it brushed off again. Plus our GPs aren't great, very abrupt and you never get the same one twice. Old fashioned and set in their ways, I can imagine they'd be the type to not believe in ADHD. Can we do things a different way? Thanks in advance

Here it is school who has to make a referral. Even ds autism consultant who he’s been seeing for years and knew himself he certainly had adhd couldn’t diagnose him or even refer him.. it had to be done through his school.

Maybe after the holidays speak to your dc school, do they have any concerns?

Ds (also 7) has severe adhd and it’s just taken 17 months to get a diagnosis. So just be warned waiting lists even for the severe cases are ridiculous!

You do have the option of private assessments also which speed up the process but at a cost.

She's fine at school, they can't understand our concerns at all, but I suspect they'd make the referral for our sake if we asked. How do you go about a private assessment? Who would we do that with?

I approached the GP a few months ago about my 7 year old and she literally just texted me a link to self-refer to CAMHS!!
I spent ages writing copious notes for the referral form and sat on it as I figured what's the use, it won't go anywhere......today his new teacher at Junior raised some concerns with me about the constant fiddling in class so I told her how I had been fobbed off by the GP and his previous teachers, her advice was to do the self-referral anyway and she will support us when it all goes through. Fingers crossed! That could be an idea for your if your local CAMHS accepts self-referrals?
