Hi guys this is my first post please be kind. My son has recently been refused DLA and I have sent a mandatory reconsideration letter. He is autistic and needs care at all times. I have had to leave my job and I’m currently working unpaid to train for a career I can fit around my commitments to him. I’m really worrying about money. I was just wondering if anyone else recently had a similar experience and were they successful? how long did they wait? I waited the full three months for my refusal and in the letter it says I said I care got him less than an hour a day which is so untrue his needs are a 24/7 commitment. Confused

Unfortunately, many parents have to appeal. Did you send evidence? If you didn't use the Cerebral guide have a look at it now. How old is DS? As they become older it is easier to show your child needs care and supervision in excess of what is typically expected at their age.

Did you manage to get it all sorted in the end? Ive had the application did my son refused because I didn’t provide evidence for the statements ive made. Ive now sent across all the observations done at nursery abs letter from GP. I’m hoping that helps.

Did you use a charity to help at all with the application?
My son is autistic and currently is only allowed for an hour a day at school.
A charity called families in focus spent hours with me going through the DLA questions with me helping me with what to write.
I know these things are very difficult and they are looking for particular phrases and buzz words. My poor dad got sacked due to his disability from a billion pound company , the judge said it was reasonable due to his disability that there was no where else for him in the company of thousands of employees (rubbish) but then got turned down for PIP because basically he didn't make his application dramatic enough!
Id advise seeking a local charity that can help you apply !

Mencap were fantastic with DS's DLA application. They knew exactly what to say. I would really recommend you use them.
