He's 4 and being assessed for SN. I don't know what particular SN he has, it doesn't seem as if he's autistic which I think they first suspected.
He can say most words and talks in sentences it's his two way talking that isn't developing as it should. He's so happy though and he knows a lot of things his peers struggle with like numbers and letters and is starting to write his name. He plays with all the kids at pre school and loves his brother. I just feel a bit sad I suppose as I have to admit that he will find school hard but I am grateful all the same.

Hi JD

Did they give you "any" idea at all what they thought it "might" be?
My dd, who is 5, has a language disorder.

Hello JuniperDewdrop.

We are going through a similar situation with ds4 who is age 3.
My ds3 is autistic but ds4 is not. He does have some of the behaviours associated with autism but not an autistic personality. DS4 has recently had an assessmenet whic put his language use at two years and his comprehension at eighteen months. We have a SALT assessment next week. So far we have been told that his problems appear language based and I suspect he has a receptive language disorder.
When will he start school? It is a worrying time when you don't know what the problem is, like BH says have you been given any ideas yet?

thanks for your replies. No not yet. He has a big appointment on 29th of this month which should include his SALT therapist but I've not had an appointment with him/her yet. Apparently this is normal practise but I know the paediatrician (sp?) isn't too happy about it.

He starts school Sept 2005. I know he'll know his numbers and letters etc by then and be able to read some as he's interested now. It's just the language problem. Like I already said I am grateful just worried if that makes sense?
