Puberty and meltdowns

Ds is 11 and is going through puberty. His meltdowns have increased in intensity to the point that I feel threatened by him. He's bigger and taller than me so when he escalates I haven't a hope really. He is vicious.
He has been having meltdowns since he was very young but this is at a whole new level. Has anyone else been through this and survived?

I can't over advice but wanted to offer some support/understanding. I'm going through similar with my 11 year old. We've always had meltdowns but since puberty started they have been in a different league. He's going through a difficult time currently but the extreme random violence is a struggle to deal with.

In case you comeback - we are a few years further down the line. The violence was horrendous but he has more control now. He eventually needed medication to take the edge off and also to be able to attend school. We have been close to needing residential as his behaviour was so bad that school and respite could not handle him. He needed a safe space not only for everyone’s safety but for him to have alone time that teenage boys need. This may sound strange but I could smell a sudden rush of hormones and could sometimes preempt the violence.
