What should sen teams be doing for children with social and communication difficulties jn school? As far as I can see nothing is being done to help by daughter and I feel like they have washed their hands of her. She was given her official ASD diagnosis a couple of weeks ago and I sent the letter to the sen lead. She totally ignored my email!

What support schools put in place depends on a child's individual needs. Support should be needs based, not diagnosis based. The support schools offer also varies school to school. Some schools are more supportive than others.

Does DD have an EHCP? How old is she?

Some examples of support that may help: social skills interventions, emotional literacy support, nurture group, using laptop, looking at the sensory environment (wobble cushion, movement breaks, sensory circuits, ear defenders) visual timetables, social stories, art/Lego therapy, drawing and talking, preteaching lesson content/new vocab, advice from specialist outreach teacher.

If DD has an EHCP in addition to the above SALT, OT and other therapeutic MH provision can be included in EHCPs. A Ed Psych assessment would also take place.

She's 9 next week, the school told me she wasn't eligible for an EHCP as she isn't academically behind by two years, I've since found out this isn't the case. If the school won't apply for one then I will.

As you have found out the school are talking rubbish. Make a parental request for an EHCNA yourself.

Do EHCPs only apply to state schools please?

No they don't, you can make an EHCNA request regardless of the type of school a child goes to or if they are EHE.
