Hi,

I wondered if anyone could advise me of the DLA process for when your child turns 16. Our last renewal was awarded in 2018 for 5 years - so until November 2023 when she is 18, however will this stop at 16 and we will need to then apply for PIP? It's confused me as it's been granted until 18 years but I thought DLA was only until 16. Thanks in advance.

If you live in England, Wales or NI DD, or you as her appointee, will have to apply for PIP at 16.

However, if you live in Scotland recent rule changes mean the DLA claim will continue until 18 before DD, or you, will have to apply for PIP (or adult disability payment which is replacing PIP).

Thanks, we are in England. So can I assume it will just stop at 16 and then we will need to apply separately for
PIP? I wonder why they awarded it until 18 knowing it only is applicable until 16!?

When DD turns 16 she will get a letter inviting her to claim PIP. If she applies by the deadline in the letter the DLA will continue until a decision is made.
