Private School

Hi, my dd is currently in year 3 state primary. She has an EHCP and they are doing brilliantly with her and are very nurturing. She has adhd and attachment disorder for which she is medicated and receiving therapy respectively. However, I am worried about secondary. Does any one know any private schools near Derby that take children with EHCPs? I tried one school that had small classes and was very outdoorsy but they refused her because of her paperwork (they said they couldn’t meet her needs, but I think they were scared to take her on). I am a teacher but I’m just wondering if EHCPs are better met in the state sector or if anyone has direct experience of private schools near Derby.

Are you looking for mainstream or specialist schools?

Independent mainstreams aren't always accommodating of pupils with SEN.

My eldest goes to private. My youngest will possibly need a specialist school. I've already been looking into whether the school will be able to support the youngest and the answer is no. I think this is the same with mainstream private schools.

You can get private specially schools. How they differ from non private specialist schools I don't know and haven't looked into but it may be worth seeing it there are any in your area.
