Hi.

I have a 15 year old son who has autism and type 1 diabetes. I have been sent a form asking if he needs an appointee in preparation for him moving on to PIP and I am really stuck on what to write in the reasons why he needs an appointee section. Please could anyone who has experience of this give me some advice on the type of thing I need to write here?

The section asks 'If x can't manage their own benefits, so please give a brief explanation of the reasons why in the space below'.

Thanks

Hi, my understanding is you need to state their mental or physical condition which is making them unable to manage their own financial affairs, such as they do not have the mental capacity to manage financial matters, or if they are disabled, state the condition. I hope that helps. I'm sure the DWP will come back to you if they need more. This may help: www.gov.uk/become-appointee-for-someone-claiming-benefits
I hope you manage to get it resolved.

I said that mine was incapable of understanding complex written information, incapable of completing complex forms and incapable of managing a bank account. It was accepted.

Thanks for your help. I've sent it back, hopefully it's ok.
