had triple test nearly 2 wks ago and phoned by hosp to say we've 1:60 chance of our baby having downs syndrome will be 17/18 wks tomorrow (have had 3 scans and hosp keep moving date back/forward 1 wk each time).
going for scan tomorrow and have been told we can have an amnio done then or in the next few weeks if we want.

undecided what to do as told the triple test may not be accurate as i'm overweight and that can effect the result. last preg ended in mc at 19 wks and dont think I could go through it again if anything went wrong,

dont really know what i'm asking here but maybe someone can share there experiences??

I think you'd have to decide first what you would do with the amnio results. Would you terminate a child because of a disability. If no, then skip the amnio and don't take any risks with your baby. If yes, is it worth the mc risk?

I think you've answered your own question there. If it doesn't matter, then don't risk the amnio.
99% of people with a disabled child don't know before the birth and they all deal with it. My own daughter was brain damaged during the birth so couldn't have been tested for. But if someone had said 'she'll have severe cerebral palsy, you will cry until your heart breaks but after the crying you'll realise you could never be without her.' I would have gone ahead and had her. To me, she is not 'a child with cp' she is herself and her personality and uniqueness overshadows the other stuff.
God luck with the rest of your pregnancy.

thanks for your messages,

think i was in shock on monday when we had the phone call ref risks. saw consultant on tues and had another scan, soft markers all came up as okay but as he said some babies with ds have 'normal' scans.
doesnt matter what an amnio would say we are having this baby but i think i'd still like to know either way. had such a bad reaction from family think i'm more concerned how to cope with them than i am with having our first baby.
thanks again
