Starting school September 2021 and dreading it!

Has anyone got a child starting reception in September and dreading it?

Our son is still in nappies, can’t dress/undress, has meltdowns, still uses a buggy (he can walk, but not far), and has difficulty in following instructions.

Preschool are applying for funding for support but we haven’t heard back what he will get yet: I’m not feeling at all positive and when I look at checklists of what children should be able to do I despair.

Has he got a diagnosis? are you applying to mainstream school? I think there's a lot of non-NT children that will struggle to check everything on the list. My daughter starts next year - her issues are difference but she is deaf and gets very tired due to her heart condition. She's also tiny.

Hi. My ds was exactly the same. He’s 7 now in year 2. He’s made heaps of progress but still can’t do some of that on your list.

This thread might be helpful to you, there are 5 follow on threads after this one still active now but this starts from the beginning.
