I'm wondering if anybody else has been in this position and what happened? For info, we are in Scotland.
My DS wasn't managing with mainstream school so I explored the option of special schools about this time last year. Ex was on board with the idea and came to see a couple with me. The council provision didn't really tick the boxes for me, there wasn't one that really met all of his needs and the bits that were wrong were too wrong to consider just trying to make it work. I found a great independent grant aided school that does tick all the boxes and he was offered a place there. Ex was on board with this and I submitted a request to the council. The council knocked it back but agreed he shouldn't be in mainstream and offered a place in an autism unit. I had already been to this unit and it was one of the ones that was an absolute definite no. We are just about to go to tribunal for the grant aided school place and now my ex is suggesting that we should just send DS to the unit offered by the council. And is arranging to visit again and meet staff etc.
I am the resident parent but there is no court orders etc in place. If the tribunal doesn't find in our favour is there anything that he or the council can do to force us into the unit that isn't suitable? I'm really keen not to just try things that I don't think will work as the past 4 years have been really traumatic for him at school and he has had suicidal thoughts at points. I cant go back to that and don't want to push something that is wrong and end up in a situation where he refuses education in general.
