Room share with autism

Hi, we live in a 2 bed house (mortgaged) and originally planned for our two children (both girls aged 5months and 2years) to share a room. The plan was to share for a few years until we'd saved to either move to a larger house or convert the loft. We've recently found out our 2 year old has autism and she's currently non-verbal, has very little understanding and due to frustration/sensory issues has regular meltdowns. She cannot tolerate even being in the same room as our 5month old at the moment.
We're now going to keep baby in our room until 18m to give it some time for them to get used to each other, however I'm panicking that it's completely unrealistic to expect them to share a room after this. It would only be for a few years whilst we saved, but still.
Has anyone been in a similar situation and did room sharing end up being okay with a child with ASD?
Thanks.
