I Can’t Cope with “Back to School”

And all the extreme stress and emotions surrounding it, her not wanting to go in, not making it in, arriving at school and it taking an hour or so to get her in. It’s been like this for years and years and I just don’t have the strength and am not in the best headspace to do it anymore. BUT unschooling/homeschooling likely won’t work for us either, even though I’ve considered it.

School do all they can to help. She has an EHCP.

I feel so down and can’t sleep, even when DD is sleeping (which is not much!)
H will be back at work full time this week too

@Blossom4538 Hi! Just remind me from your other posts, I think your daughter has lots of challenges with sensory processing?
Is she in mainstream school. How many kids in her year group?

Blossom4538 · 03/01/2021 19:30

Hi, yes you’re right!
She’s in mainstream, but not in main class. She is in a small group of 2-3 children.

@Blossom4538 Is she able to talk about school, her likes and dislikes? As you know from my previous posts I have a son with some significant sensory processing issues and we are working transitioning him to a specialist provision where he will have his own space and a bespoke curriculum.

Hi I don't know your story but our DD blossomed when we moved her from mainstream to special school. It was fabulous.

Good luck, I know how exhausting it is.

Yes same here I'm dreading it, my dd has been so calm and relaxed and happy over Christmas but now the anxiety is creeping in and the meltdowns have started. She struggles with friendships so much not helped by the fact a girl from her class unfriended her from Roblox last night and she is distraught which is making her more unhappy about going back.

@Blossom4538 Hi 👋. How today been?

Have you requested an early review or reassessment of needs? If DD isn't able to attend school because of her ASD or MH the LA have a statutory duty to provide education.

Aside from school support, have you had a carer's assessment and an assessment for DD from the disabled children's team.

Hi Has anyone ever had to do a full statutory re-assessment when moving from England to N Ireland - I have been told I have to start all over again with my son even though we have just signed off his annual review here in England for his EHCP!

Ellie56 · 19/05/2021 17:16

No but I imagine you would have to as EHCPs only apply in England. The education system is different in Northern Ireland.
