Autism and Nits

DS2 has nits. I can't use the electronic zapper or nit comb as he goes crazy - what can I do to get rid of them.

first thing that springs to mind is do best you can with ordinary comb and teatree stuff. second thing that springs to mind is a really really short hair cut.

I just used Hedrin on my seven year old (she has PDD-NOS and has major problems with some noises). Hedrin is very easy to use compared to other nitty potions we've had and non toxic -you just bung it on (it's oily) and leave it on overnight. No nits in sight so far.

I got it from Boots (sadly, it's not cheap...).

Yep, same here! Not much useful advice though I'm afraid - we cut out as many stages as possible - wet his hair with our hands, stick on tea tree conditioner and nit comb as fast as possible, ignoring the wailing. Dh tried distraction techniques tonight - blowing raspberries, which drowned out the wailing at least . I read somewhere that lavender oil on the hair stops them coming back - but first you have to get rid of the bu**ers!

ok so hedrin then lavemder oil - brilliant thanks - i dont care if he has the hedrin a lot as long as i dont have to comb - he nearly broke my nose tonight.

I used conditioner and a comb and prepared a story in case the neighbours called the police over the shrieking and screaming.
He's 14 now and still can't bear his hair being touched. Its now matted.

Just dealing with this very issue did not realise they were so gross. Largely relying on chemicals but combing using nitty gritty comb every few days while he freaks and goes mad in the bath. The little b*r's are persistant to say the least! He likes twisting hair so trying to do twisting hair checks for nits. All the best!

No experience of Autism, but i can testify to the effectiveness of hedrin.

It is a silicone liquid that you rub all over the head, leave over night, wash or shower out. It suffoctaes the lice, i think. No combing needed.

Then you do it a week alter to catch any newly hatched ones.

It's about £8 a bottle, but that willdo a co,plete treatment for 3 heads.

I used hedrin on ASD and HIGHLY intolerant DS. He coped with everything about the process and it worked!
It worked! Oh joy unbridled at last something worked !!!

HI I HAVE 2 WITH ASD AND I HAVE LEARNED 1 THING ROUTINE THEY LIKE ROUTINE SO I BATH DRESS READY FOR BED THEN I GET THE NIT COMB OUT WITH SOME HEDRIN ON THE COMB MAKE SURE THEY ARE SITTED IN FROUNT OF THE TV WITH VERY FAVEROUITE FILM OR PROGRAME MAKE SURE YOU DO IT EVERYTIME THEY HAVE A BATH EVEN IF THEY DON'T HAVE NITS AND YOU'LL FIND IT EASIER WHEN YOU HAVE TO DO IT FOR REAL ALSO LET THEM PLAY WITH A SECOND COMB LET THEM DO IT ON YOU OR MAKE A GAME GOOD LUCK

We go with preventatives here. A few drops of tea tree oil added to her normal shampoo and conditioner (they don't like the smell, apparently; you can get tea tree oil from Boots) and DD1 has her hair plaited and then tied back 24/7 - appreciate this may be diff for a boy but worth thinking about cutting it shorter but on the same frequency if that would be tolerated. We've been on this regime since having difficulty with an initial outbreak, and despite a couple of nit notices coming home from school we've been clear ever since.
