Potty training....

Dd has been fascinated with us when we go to the loo - I am unable to go to the loo alone during the day - she crawls after me doing the toilet sign. At the odd time she has also done the toilet sign to me eg whilst she was playing etc. I also use the toilet sign when I change her nappy so she can associate it with that..wet/dirty then slean iykwim.

I am well aware that she really probably has no idea and is just copying me when I started doing the sign to her

BUT

bought a potty yesterday and she has been fascinated with it - playing with etc... thought about just popping her on it every now and then - and use the makaton sign for toilet whilst she is there and see what happens.....

Am I pushing her too soon and being unreasonable?

Both dh and I know that it will probably not work but figured we give it a go and see what happens...

what do you think?!?!

no that is what we do with dd. Everytime her nappy is changed we put her on the pot, or she puts herself on now. It just associates wee with pot etc. dd has actually started holding herself now and going on the pot so it must work!!

I think just trust your instinct on this one eidsvold and it's not going to hurt anyone is it for her to have a go?

she is young but thst's no reason not to try if she's showing an interest but will it all fall apart when no 2 comes along? Maybe decide if you are going to drop it in time for it not to coincide or you won't know if no 2 had an affect or it just was too son. Go for it though if she's ready, don't let anyone put you off by expecting too little because of her SN

i tend to try things with her and if it doesn';t succeed - pack it in for a while and then try again...like getting her to drink from a cup - she did it once and then we had no success and of course now it is hard to belive I agonised over it and bought every cup imaginable......
