C P ? 10 week old baby....

ill keep this punchy....to keep a lid on my possibly fatigued induced wonderings

so, 10 week old baby..right hand... fingers waggle and grab boobie...do stuff...looks relaxed when she is asleep

left hand tends to be in a fist most of the time...when she is sleeping it is flat and splayed(?)
the tone of each of her hands is different to the other most of teh time....only been comparing for a day

thought her left leg was tensing unusually...and what is usual(but i am tired)

no other difficulties...eg feeding,gaze and stuff

any thoughts team mumsnet?

Why would you think she might have CP? Was there a lack of oxygen at birth or did she need rescusitating?
My daughter has severe CP but under about 3 months there was no real difference with non-CP babies. At 3 months she couldn't hold up her head. Then we went down 6 months of seizures and stuff which kept us occupied. Since then she has met no physical milestones and physically is like a 7 week old baby. But at 10 weeks old there was no difference. Its only when the voluntary nerves/muscles turn on that you start to see stuff I reckon. Movement before then is involuntary.
Having said all that, mums often spot something so keep an eye on her. Can she hold her head up?When she starts reaching check its both sides etc.

A dead giveaway (and one that was spotted in hospital when DS2 was 8 weeks old) is that my sons leg used to 'shake' when he was hungry or upset. we thought nothing of it becuase our first son had the same symptom, although thus was a calcium (I think) deficiency due to being 8 weeks early. Looking back DS2's 'shaking' was much worse. It was more jittery than shaky, and only happened when he was crying or hungry.
Keep your eye on baby, but don't worry unnecessarily. If you think there may be a problem, get it checked out - then you can relax and enjoy your baby!

need more coffee..i think i wonder about cp because of teh tone of her muscles in her arm and hand...a little knowledge is a dangerous thing to a tired mum...her birth was unremarkable...

im going to do as you both advise and keep an eye on her...and try not to worry.

dd has cp(severe) and I just knew something was wrong. BUT things happened in the birth.
quite often things can seem a bit odd with a baby and turn out to be nothing(hope this happens in your case)

dd suffered a hypoxic event at birth and a MRI showed lots of brain damage so although there was no physical diffetrence initially, we already knew she was going to have CP. We just didn't know how severe.
Naturally she has gone for severe quad CP and has no body function at all.
Usually CP is picked up when milsetones aren't reached or are late and inmild to moderate cases it can be up to age 2 before a diagnosis because some children develop slower than others.

My dd has Hemiplegia - CP affecting one side of her body. Up until 5 or 6 months we had no inkling at all and you couldn't tell her apart from other newborns. Looking back at photos now all I see if her little right fist all curled up with her thumb tucked in. If it is worrying you I would talk to your GP although there can be plenty of other reasons for a seeming difference in tone in one arm (pre diagnosis it was thought dd might have damaged her shoulder muscles and nerves during labour as she delivered by c-section as was pretty hard to pull out).
