New pupil in Waterloo Road has Asperger Syndrome in case anyone interested?

Yes - am watching it

I know it's sad but I was getting really annoyed with the way the teachers were dealing with Carla in class- especially that horrible English teacher !woooga.

Stumbled across it accidentally. Shocking. Drama is supposed to be, I know, but the scriptwriters did a very half-hearted job on this one. Left all sorts of things unchallenged and could have given people a very false impression of Aspergers. And of teachers, I bloody well hope.

I read a report about it (have never seen the programme I'm afraid) that suggested she reacted violently to situations. Whilst this is certaintly true of some female Aspergers and, with myself at least whilst not violent I do have a foul temper at times, females with AS are more likely to react to bad situations by becoming very withdrawn. With myself I do sort of shut things out and the more stressful or upset a situation the harder I find it to express myself or show a noticeable reaction. One example was when my dad told me two hours before the coach was due to leave that I couldn't go to the Brownie Camp and though I said nothing I was devastated inside. I think this is one reason why HFA and AS females get diagnosed far less.

Hopefully they'll progress with the story to give a more positive view and highlight the difficulties Carla faces.
I heard that in Grange Hill there was a boy with Asperger's - as that is a kid's program I hope they did a better job with their research- although the boy in the storyline apparently had his storyline carefully developed over a longer time.woooga.
