Still not happy with dx

Okay, the title says it all really.
I am not happy with the dx my ds has been given: gdd with asd.
I don't agree with the gdd part of dx.
I do not think that my ds is developmentally delayed, except socially and communication wise.
Is it possible to have a re-assessment or do I have to wait for the review. Ithink they gave him dx with gdd just to cover themselves. He did walk a little late, but was walking well by 2 years 3 months. He started talking recently, but it is echolalia, and he can't understand anythin I say to him, except biscuit, cake, water, apple, banana. He can't understand simple single commands, demands routine, etc.
He has however improved with eye-contact.
So if my ds is not delayed, and gives some eye-contact. He no longer has a dx?
Am I delusional?

my ds was given dx of Gdd & CP but has since had ASD added.
At his last assessment he had progressed well in some areas particularly speech so i'm not sure if the gdd still applies.

Has your ds has OT & Physio assessments as i thought (although I don't know why) they were meant to show immaturity of fine & gross motor skills & language for a gdd dx.

I don't think your delusional just a loving parent, although I would use any dx to your best advantage to help push for any support to help your ds & remember it is only a DELAY so it does not always mean its forever. Often they do catch up.

i woulnt worry 2 much about gdd i think health proffs are quick to label and make time lines,my dd only walked at 2 never walked with furniture never looked at anyone and coulnt do alot of things other kids her age could,now she excels in knowlage like shapes numbers and how things work i think some kids are choosy,my dd now 3 has autistic traits but they dont all have a downside,she does however need routine else everything goes pear shaped!!!!!!

Do you have a good written report of the assessment describing the behaviours hat have led to diagnosis? Eg my DS has GDD but our post assessment report from the Pead describes the things that led to this and names the assessment tool used (Grififths). The SALT saw him first and identified delayed language development and immature attention. Then the Paed noticed the rest. eg although his walking wasn't really late, his other gross motor skills are delayed in that he can't jump, hop, the way he walks up the stairs.
Have you looked at the criteria used to diagnose asd and discussed with the pead how he meets these?
I don't think you are delusional, you just want the best for your ds. He maybe doesn't need re-assessment, just more information about the things that led to his diagnosis. Can you approach the Pead (am assuming this is who made the original dx) to make an appointment to discuss.
ps. great that his eye contact is improved, how are his attention and listening?

I just feel a little deflated with the whole approach to my ds's problems.
I get fed up with hearing about how he will 'grow out of it'.I see my ds exhibiting new and bizarre behaviours all the time. Today he has become more elaborate with his hand and finger stimming, and has been laughing hysterrically(sp?) at anything, for instance when I bumped my head and cried out in pain, and something on the wall.
Yuo aer right mymatemax, I should get whatever I can out of any dx, and use it to full advantage. I suppose gdd covers everything, with asd added on for good measure.
The eye contact was good for about half an hour, and then deteriorated. Ah well, it is still an improvement. Unfortunately it did tire him out, and for the rest of the day ds had to lie down on the floor alot with his eyes mostly closed or looking at the wall.
Another one of my mad posts that was.
At least I don't bore dh with it all the time. I think he prefers to take a break, while I get stuck into things.

hi,deeja know how u feel my ds is permantly hand flapping ringing she has also started with her toes!!!!how old is your ds,she is also very blunt stating she doesnt like him\her etc and very odd response to emotions

Hi missh, my ds is 2 and a half. He can't really say much, it is mostly echolalia and never contextual. He like Thomas the tank engine, and if anyone says 'hello' to him, he replies with 'hello Thomas'.. That is the only time it is related to the situation.
He does alot of spinning, and flapping, and lining upof toys and has starting to seperate food out into types, so will no longer eat sandwhiches, sigh!
He is extremely rigid, and gets very angry and aggressive when anyone spoils his routine or patterns. He is building up quite alot of those. I want to find out how to break that up somehow. Or should I just leave him alone?
Anyway, I could ramble on and on, but I think I should stop now.

I agree with Fio, GDD is delayed in 2 or more areas - you yourself say he has communication issues , both received and speaking. He did also walk late, although he can now.

I always have felt that GDD is only a clinical discription, not a DX - because, essentially, they have not diagnosed anything just observed that the child concerned has not hit the traditional milestones or targets.

Like Joggeroo, the Griffiths details precisely where he is developmentally which is great. The first one can act as the baseline and any subsequent can show a range of improvements or changes.

I just feel that the gdd bit is too much of a generalisation and is somehow not a 'real' diagnosis.

ye deeja still trying to get her to sleep its a nightmare,as for the obsessions a good way to try and knock these on the head is telling them everywhere your going doing that day,trust me it works ,also you could try to knock a tower you have built yourself down and see if that helps
