Hi, my 6 year old son is just at the start of his ASD assessment and I’m wondering if anyone can explain the results of the Griffiths personal, social, and emotional development assessment. My son scored

Low percentile scores usually indicate a child is struggling compared with other children the same age.

As I understand it, percentiles are measurements that show where a child is compared with other children. So a child on the 20th percentile would perform better than 20% of children and 80% would perform better than him/her.

But it sounds a though your son had problems accessing the test if he found it "tricky." That said if a child has ASD, you would expect a low score in social and emotional development.

The time before diagnosis can be very worrying (and frustrating) but the earlier a child is diagnosed the sooner the right support can be put in place.
