HELP! SELF-HARMING!

My ds has started self-harming. If he feels anxious he has started biting his fingers or his fist. He doesn't seem to hurt hmself, although he appears to be biting quite hard. He hasn't drawn blood, but does leave red teeth-marks.
He doesn't hurt other children as far as I have seen.
I am quite worried, and wondered if anyone has experience as to what I can do to nip this in the bud.
I don't think he will stop doing it naturally, as it is a new activity and the frequency has increased alarmingly.
Please, someone tell me what I can do?
Clueless, that's me!

Oh deeeja you are having a tough time! Can't think of anything constructive to say other than keep removing his hands from his mouth but I am sure somebody else will come along soon.

Just wanted to send sympathy.
