Starting to talk - is it typical?

Hello, I have a 8 yrs old ASD son that started to talk in the last 6 months. Its a happy time as I thought we will not get there. However Im still watching closely this skill. He tends to want to talk and a lot only on things that are interesting him and sometimes asks same questions all over. Is this typical? Can anyone relate? Will that pass too?

dunno... but I did endure a couple of years of minecraft monologues...

mine talked earlier than 8 though, but stopped talking for a term in year one.
