Holiday respite

Someone told me of an organisation that provides respite carers to come with a family on holiday when the family has a disabled child. We want to go camping next year but it isn't a holiday when we take DD (severe CP) so for the last 3 years I've taken the other kids and DH stays at home with DD. I want us to all go together but then we lose our at home respite. A friend told me about this organisation but couldn't remember what it was called. She said they even come camping. Having a helper would make such a difference and give DH a chance to have a holiday too.
Then I hear SS can provide direct payments to pay for this marvel if a family with a disabled member hasn't been on holiday together for 5 years.
Anyone know anything about either thing?

Not heard of this organisation so can't help there, but it might be possible for who ever provides the home respite to provide a carer to accompany you on holiday. Not sure how it would work out from a funding point of view, but on the practical side they should be able to supply a carer for the duration of your holiday. That how it work's with my agency anyway, as long as the funding is there, a carer can be supplied for as short or as long as wanted by the individual family.

probably not quite what you are thinking of, but possibly this organisational may be appropriate for providing a carer with a holiday but not camping..

Have a look through the holiday info (under specialist dissability holidays) or under the respite bit.

I am a childrens social worker so i will ask around the children with dissabilitys team for you.
