ABA therapist recommendations

Hi! My little boy is 1 year old and is showing many signs of autism. I am beginning the process of getting him assessed but I don't want to hold of if I can proactively help him now. I've read a lot about ABA and it's an option i'm keen to explore. Does anyone have any recommendations for someone I the Yorkshire area? Also, I can't seem to get a handle on what level of intensity is appropriate and cost? Any thoughts? Thanks

Whereabouts in Yorkshire are you? If you look on the BCBA website you can search for qualified consultants near you (and bear in mind that most will travel some distance as well). Also, try posting on the ABA4ALL Facebook page and the ABA yahoo group.
A great book to start with is ‘Motivation and Reinforcement’ by Robert Schramm.

Can I say to think hard about what you want from therapy? Aba is extremely controversial within the adult autistic community for good reasons. Your child is very very young. What do you want to achieve? I think your loving connection with your child is the most important relationship he has. By all means speak to a pead, a SALT and an OT and get their advice. But my strongly held personal view is that your attention and love is the best underpinning for your child's future development. Play and build his social skills. Sing and speak and do funny faces and improve his communication as a happy by product. Throw him in the air if he likes it and swing him and balance him on your knees and improve his prioperception on the sly.
