Hi,
I'm looking for some help with my DS aged 7. He is on the waiting list for an autism diagnosis, and ticks most of the boxes for PDA and ODD. His Dad has been diagnosed with Adhd, so there could be a link there too. DS can hold everything together at school - his behaviour is good there, but at home even getting him to get dressed is really hard work and he has huge tantrums pretty much daily. I've been reading a lot about strategies for children with PDA and ODD, but I think I need some extra help. as his behaviour seems to be getting worse rather than better as he gets older. Does anyone know of any counsellors that specialise in working with children and parents? We live in North London. I would really like some help with parenting strategies. Thank you for any help.

@Hilda41Have you come across the PDA Society? The strategies for PDA and ODD are very different. PDA behaviour is rooted in anxiety.
I think you need to be very careful with any type of therapy as strategies if inappropriate may actually worsen anxiety and increase demand avoidance. Give the PDA Society a call for advice.

Thanks Niffler75. I think you're right it's important to tread really carefully and I probably shouldn't be trying to diagnose him myself. Will give the PDA society a call and hopefully they can give some advice

@Hilda41 Let me know how it goes! I have a boy who I suspect is PDA, going through assessment and the strategies are working for us! 💐😊
