Hi,

My son has recently been diagnosed with Tourette’s, which wasn’t a big surprise to me, he has been having tics for 2 years, he is 5.5 years old. His tics come and go, the motor tics have been around longer than vocal tics, he has hew tics all the time and is never tic free. I’d like to know from other parents what to expect really, he is young to be diagnosed and I’m not sure how the future will be for him. Any advice will be appreciated x

Hi,

I haven't had any responses so wondering if I have posted this in the right thread...is there a better thread to post it in?

Thanks

Hi OP.

I have seen parents of children with Tourette’s post here from time to time. Have you used the search function to look for any older threads?

School holidays and weekends are generally a bit slower on these boards.

@password8180 I dont have a child with tourettes but I have tourettes myself. My tics didnt start till I was 9 so a bit older than your son. But I'm now 24 and i still have tics, much worse than when I was younger. Other people their tics go away quite a bit to a very manageable level, it just depends on the person. A lot of people tics get worse around puberty. Stress is a major trigger for most peoples tics, mine however are worse the happier and more relaxed I am. Awareness a d acceptance is increasing all the time. Any other questions I'm happy to answer.
