Hi,
I am a Mum of two. My oldest is nearly 4 now and she has type 1 (insulin controlled) diabetes.
It can be quite lonely and isolating, so instead of just complaining about it, I have decided to do something about it.
I have set up a Website to be used by families in my situation. It is work in progress and I am learning on the job (not being a technical person) so please don't expect moving pictures or anything flash! Just gentle support and encouragement.
If this appeals to you, please take a look at
www.freewebs.co.uk/childdiabetes
I am not a medical professional, so it is more emotional support. I hope it helps. X

Good for you, I am sure people will find it very supportive.

Thanks- will pass onto my SIL- her ds (aged 3) has type 1 diabetes.

Thanks for your support. I am a bit nervous about it as I really want it to work. I have not found any other website that is not about the medical side of it. I thought that it was about time that there was a website like Mumsnet, only for families supporting diabetic children. I figured that I cannot be the only one out there!

Hi robinandbeausmum,

I can't find your website! It sounds great and just what I needed a few years ago.

I have a 10 year old ds with diabetes (diagnosed at 5). I agree it can be very isolating as other friends/parents/teachers just don't "get it".

If you are after emotional support, I am a member of an on-line support group for parents of children with diabetes. We have over 100 members and it is a very lively email group (especially at this time of year with the return to school!). Let me know if you would like details.

Hi,
I may have put the link address down wrong!
Try
www.freewebs.com/childdiabetes
Sorry!
I would love the details of the support group...Yes Please!
My little girl was diagnosed at 2 and to say that it has been tough is an understatment!
I have found that just writing the website has been cathartic and I really hope that, by just giving families a space to air their true feelings, it will help someone else.
Please feel free to add to the forum, or sign the guest book. I would love to hear from you!
I am away now for a week, so I will be unable to reply to anything till next week.
Thanks for your interest. It's very encouraging.
