Autism assessment ?

DS2 is waiting for 3Di assessment for autism.

I've been googling & now i'm not sure if they assess him & input the data to score, or if it is just me they question?

Does anyone know what format the 3Di takes?

Is it an accurate tool considering he has already been through numerous assessments & I just want to go prepared this time.

Hi ive never heard of a 3di assessment. My ds was diagnosed with autism after after an assessment at the child development clinic. There were so many obvious symptoms he didnt have to get an autism assessment.

Thanks 2mum, ds2 was assessed at multi disciplinary & was given dx of social anxiety disrder with autistic traits & OCD. He already had dx of GDD & CP.
His paed said he can't keep getting a list of associated disorders, she said she can't fit it all on the one line & has asked them to look again with a view to a global ASD dx.

She feels he will be able to access more help if they are looking at a broad spectrum disorder rather than seeking guidance for the individual problems as it just doesn't seem to be out there. We were told there was no help for his OCD until he is much older

I'm still not sure if he will tick all the boxes tho

My ds2 is also diagnosed with gdd. i see what you mean about getting the asd dx instead of treating all the individual diagnosis.

the 3Di is a new devise and it's a computerised assessment. You just answer questions and your answers are entered on a computer and that calcualtes where your child comes on various diagnostic criteria, e.g. communication, social interaction etc and then it puts this together to give a diagnosis. It's based on previous interview methods for making diagnoses and it's supposed to be pretty good. I think it's supposed to make diagnosis more objective. Although your child is not directly involved in this part of the assessment, I don't think any diagnosis would be made without some direct assessment of him too.

Yes, when we had this there was some direct assessment by the SALT and also the area SENCO went to the nursery to observe and the nursery staff had a questionnaire to fill in as well. The paed didn't do any direct assessment for the 3Di but had already done a full assessment a couple of months before.

Afterwards they sent us a draft report prior having a meeting (with paed and SALT) to finalise it (where we got to have the bits we thought were wrong, changed). This meant we received our provisional DX, of high functioning autism, in a letter rather than face to face, which we were fine about since we were expecting it anyway, but I imagine others would not be at all happy with.

(I've been away on holiday, BTW, which is why I didn't post anything about this when the thread was started).

I'm guessing they have observed him all they need & have reports from everyone. He attended weekly OT pre-school group so she has their report & request for the psych to re assess & offer him support, as well as his paeds request for a formal dx, plus her own observations from multi disciplinary assessment, so, like you some form of dx won't come as a shock - I think they may give a dx just to shut everyone up
Although he's started school this week so they may want their in put.
