How to improve clarity in speech

My two and half yr son is trying to say two words I think. Either the first or second word is not clear. For example "soap athe", "ank you box"and "Mana here". These are not in context to things happenings around, looks like random words. Is this normal? Or echolalia? Or self talking?
After knowing about ASD, I am double worried about his activities and speech.
I don't know what he is trying to say many times, when he tries to talk more words together. Suggestion to improve this situation will be of great help.

First obvious step - get his hearing checked out. Can be very very common that speech clarity issues are because they've not been able to hear the words correctly to pick them up properly. It's the first thing they're likely to ask you to have done if you end up joining the waiting list for SALT anyway so a very logical step to do.

If you're worried it's worth a chat with your HV - if you end up on a waiting list for SALT then you can always come off it if needs be, but personally I'd not be too concerned about clarity issues like you're describing at that point in time and beginning to combine words together is pretty much spot on where he should be - and that does tend to mess with clarity somewhat anyway (you should see what it does to adult speech which is currently the bane of my phonetics related life how much things go a bit wonky putting words together!). They also get so many new words around then that the motor movements to say them can lag a bit behind and the clarity goes somewhat for a while.

Just talk to him, respond to him, recast what he's saying so he hears the correct version if you can do it in a positive way so "goggie... yes that's a brown doggie" and the like.

It's worth getting his hearing checked out anyway.

@Kuponut Thank you for posting reply. Hearing test will happen after six week. He is in assessment process for ASD now. Just started.
