Stimming

My 3 year old DS seems to have periods when he needs to stim a lot and other days / weeks where it calms down. After over a year of trying to see a pattern (like maybe he's tired or bored with his toys) it still seems quite random to me. I'm just interested really does anyone know what understanding is out there as to why there are more intense phases.

It could be anything really. Stimming is supposed to be both a reaction to anxiety and excitement, but also just a physically pleasurable activity.

I for example enjoy listening to podcasts. Some weeks I have podcasts on all day every day and some weeks I don't listen to any at all. Maybe there's no real big reason for the ebbing and flowing.
