My DD is 2.8 and has mild diplegic Cerebral palsy, she's not walking yet and her balance can vary, I gave started introducing the potty and have tried potty training in the last 2 days but I'm feeling o should hold off a Little longer until she walks or should I go for it?

I work so don't really get the chance to get a few clear days to master this, I'm on holiday at the moment so thought I'd give it ago.

When did your CP children potty train and any advice/tips would be great Smile

Hiya, I know you posted this a while ago but just saw this and saw it had no replies.

My DD has very mild CP, she potty trained around 2.10. She was walking but unable to pull her own clothes up and down so she wasn’t really independent at going, even once “potty trained”, basically she would decide it was time and I would follow swiftly to help with clothes.

I’m not sure whether you would be able to do that ie be there each time to assist your LO with getting onto the potty? Depends if you have other DC etc? If not then it might be worth sticking with nappies till she can be more independent - if it looks like that will be soon?

I have to say that although DD was trained at that age, she then got very very tired when she started nursery a few weeks later and we had a LOT of wee accidents due to tiredness - so maybe it would have been better to wait. Also we started trying at about 2.7 and it took about 3 months for her to “get it”... don’t do that it was awful! if she doesn’t get it quickly she’s not ready...!

Hi, my daughter is 2.5 with diplegia CP and we are starting to think about potty training, I read somewhere that kids with CP can struggle to gain bladder and bowel control so it's been worrying me a lot.

DD isn't walking yet, and it's a long way off I think, she crawls and high kneel walks though so is very mobile, so she could take herself to the potty or toilet, but she wouldn't be able to take clothes off or sit herself on it. So I'm not sure if I should wait. She's also showing zero interest. She knows when she's going to poo, but if I ask her if she wants to poo on the potty she just says no and then cries if I make her sit on the potty. No idea if she knows she she's going to wee.

We've just had our second baby and I was hoping that we could use the 'now your a big sister you need to be a big girl and use the potty/toilet' card - but she again has no interested in being a 'big girl' - we've tried the same with trying to get her to use her pacer properly - big girls stand up tall and step step - but she hates it and just cries to get out so she can crawl!

Anyway sorry I'm not offering any advice - but it's helpful to hear how others in similar position have got on with PT!

Xxx
