Health visitor questionnaire

Name changed for this.

Have the health visitor coming out soon for DD (2). Have filled in the Ages and Stages questionnaire and have checked the scoring online and she has scored very highly (the cutoff score is 57 and hers is above 100) which seems to mean that she will need a referral. We have already considered that she could have ASD and are going to discuss this.

Just wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and what this meant for their child. What will the health visitor do when she comes out since the score is higher? Does anyone have any advice on getting an ASD diagnosis at this age?

Is this the social-emotional one or just the regular one for the 27mth check up?

Sorry, I should have said. It's the social emotional one.

With a score well over the cut off I’d hope they would refer. Does your area have an early help programme?

We did the social-emotional questionaire at around 3 after monitoring following the 27mth review. However he scored around the cut-off (which I think was around 85 on the version I had) and the hv said she couldn’t take it any further. He was subsequently diagnosed with ASD.

I'm not sure if there's an early help programme where we are. How would I find that out?

Can I ask what you did when the hv couldn't take it further? Just trying to prepare for the possibility although I think since the score is so high we will get a referral.

Try Googling your local authority name and early help. Failing that the hv will know.

I took my ds to a speech and language drop in clinic aged 3.5 with a list of my concerns about his speech. They agreed it warranted investigation and followed up with a call to his nursery and we were then advised to apply for acceptance to the early help programme. He was diagnosed at 3.11.

We also booked a hearing test at the GP surgery to rule out a hearing problem though I was 99% sure it was fine.

Thank you, I'll look it up and see what I can find.
