Triple P?

DC1 (preschool) is about to be diagnosed with ASD. I’m not sure what the parlance is these days but we believe they’d have previously(?) been labelled high functioning.

I’ve got a login for Triple P’s online course through our local authority, unconnected to DC’s assessment. I believe it’s the ‘standard’ programme and not the Stepping Stones version.

Is it still worth me doing it or should I looking into the Stepping Stones one? I asked for a login specifically due to DC1 being a bit trying at times (we think sometimes due to just being their age as well as ASD). But then we do have DC2 who appears NT. Interested in others’ opinions or experiences before I tackle all the modules.

I’ve done both, triple p really helped me understand my own parenting skills and I’ve changed the way I do things st home. I then asked for more support for my youngest who is 8 I’ve been battling to get help with for years and finally got a cahms referral recently and school are more on board.

Stepping stones is valuable if you can do it too. My council does triple p as a course I went on with other parents although only I turned up so ended up having 2 workers to myself for 3 sessions and 2 follow ups and support from their line manager who was also very helpful. She put me in touch with the stepping stones course leader he is 1:1 and went over the booklets with me so I’d say it’s valuable and it did help me and stepping stones gave me techniques to use with my son, (tp was great for the other 2 just not ds3) he has no diagnosis yet though so I struggle to understand him sometimes but I was told cahms like you to have done triple p. Sorry if my post is a bit jumbled

I’d do the stepping stones one and also look at the NAS early bird one too. I found them both very helpful and great for meeting other families in the same boat.

We've done triple p a few years ago and it really helped, we were already doing a lot of the techniques but it helped reinforce and helped with consistency too.

Sorry, only just seen that there were responses!

We’re knocking the Triple P option on the head for now and hopefully doing Early Bird next year. Jemima, can you tell me any more about your experiences with it?
