SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

We’re thinking about merging this section, what do you think?

Hi all,
We’re doing some work on making the Talk boards more useful and user-friendly for both regular and new users. After looking at some stats for the site, we think we could boost activity on the whole by merging some of the lesser used sections.

We’re proposing to fold the topics in this section into the SN children area.

This should increase the number of topics in the section - and hopefully lead to more posts and responses to members.

What do you think?

Sounds like a good idea. I think there’s a few too many sub sections in the Sen section so you’re never sure where to post.

Yes please - i think there are too msny subsections too

Marshmallow09er · 31/07/2019 15:28

Yes agree this section gets far less traffic and sometimes posts go unanswered for a while

The only issue though is SEN education can go up to age 25, which doesn't fit with SN children.

Unless you change SN Children to SN Children & Young People.

staydazzling · 12/08/2019 19:43

yeah i agree this is a good idea

KisstheTeapot14 · 13/08/2019 15:19

Good idea, I'm always flipping between the various options. Also the hot link to other SEN bits does not work - from education to SEN children I think.

Yes, I have objected to some of the other proposed merges but I agree with this one. Maybe as a PP has said, re-name it SN Children and Young Adults or similar.

I think the teens and young adults section is useful (not that I post in it but I do read it). Our children have to transition to adult services including benefits and social services and medical services and at some point they finish education. These changes happen at various ages from the age of 16.
I think a separate topic to cover these issues might still be useful.

EggysMom · 18/08/2019 20:49

Noooooo! Please keep SN Education separation. Obtaining an EHCP and getting appropriate education is a very specialist topic.

You can merge the SN Chat, SN Children & SN Teens sections together. Nobody seems to know which of those they should post in.

I think it would be a good idea. I also never know where to post - in the education section under SEN or in here...

Hello1290 · 25/08/2019 20:39

I would be in favour of merging. I think there are too many subsections and very little responses on some threads.

Even if people are looking for quite specific information if everything was all on one generic SN board more posters would see it and may be able to help.

ExpletiveDelighted · 25/08/2019 21:40

Back in the days when I was going through the statementing process (5 or so years ago, now EHCP) all the relevant threads were in SN children anyway. SN education was a tumbleweed zone. I do think there might be some value in having a separate section for young adults as it is a whole different set of issues.
