Did anyone see the programme on BBC 2 last night about a couple who were having a baby. They were both hearing impaired and wanted there son to be as well. Once the baby was born they had all the tests done and the baby was also hearing impaired and they were really happy. It was a lovely story and struck a chord with me as I have friends with hearing impaired children as ds'd school has a hearing impaired unit.

i saw it, i totally understood the parents views i know a few people who are deaf and i did bsl level one, i found it hard to understand pauls mum who still hasnt learnt to sign, my kids have autism and they all did signing and we were able to understand each other, don't know how we would have managed without signing to be honest, i think they ought to do basic signing at schools.

My son does signing at pre-school!
I think Paul's reaction (and desire to have a deaf child) was a REaction to the fact that he was isolated in his family.... Claire seemed to be of 2 minds about having a deaf child or not....
It was a lovely programme.
