Hi, I'm new here. I was wondering does anyone get a holiday when they have a kid with aspergers? We have had 5 holidays all very stressfull and we have decided not to go again until we can find somewhere that can maybe give us a break for a few hours during the holiday. Anyone have any ideas/experiences they can share with me?

Debbie

There's been quite a long thread on holidays recently. I've got a 9 year old with autism and we've had one holiday in 7 years, partly due to safety concerns but also because a "holiday" is meant to delver certain things and that would just not be the case for us. Far better to be in our familiar surroundings and DH takes time off that we spend at home while DS is at school. We have lunches, take daytrips and just enjoy being at home. The only reason we went away last year was because we had an au-pair living with us at the time due to having DD and that made a huge difference but its just us again. We have no family help and, this year, we asked DH's sister and her husband to come away with us, no charge for the extremely posh villa and they'd just have to pay (peanuts) for their air fares..... they said no so we couldn't go . Other DO take holidays so maybe there'll be some more posts, but it does seem to depend on the child with SN, whether you have other children and how worthwhile it is likely to be, i.e. benefits over disruption.
