PIVATS - help please

DS is now apparently on PIVATS instead of KS levels.
This is what we got this term instead of a report.
He has in fact made loads of progress with reading this term, with me. But they keep giving him non-decodable books. He's on band 5 but they haven't moved him up since about last June.
He's in Y2 and we're doing Y1 maths work with him.
His handwriting is frankly pointless - nobody can read it.
I can see they think he's made no progress except in number but what exactly do these levels mean? How high do they go?
He has a diagnosis of ADHD but we can't find out how to get dyspraxia diagnosed.

@drspouse This might help to explain.

But looking at your report it looks as though the school are saying your son has not made any progress in reading, writing or in using/applying number, in the last term. And from what you say they are not giving him appropriate reading books.

Does he have an EHCP? If not I would request an EHC Needs assessment. Information here:

We have the draft EHCP but I haven't read it fully. It's very vague though.

If the EHCP is "very vague" it is not worth the paper it is written on and very probably unlawful.

Check it against the information here:

Do you have reports from an educational psychologist and other professionals eg. SLT/OT/ Health Care?

drspouse · 27/04/2019 14:50

EP yes.
OT yes but it's very old. They have seen him twice since then. They have apparently sent a new report but it hasn't arrived.
SALT he hasn't seen (school say they can't talk to him, but we can, he's not great at turn taking or managing topics but school say his speech has gone downhill - it hasn't but they give him attention for being babyish)
He has epilepsy but it doesn't impact at school. School have his ADHD diagnosis letter and are passing it on to the LEA.
The EHCP says he can't do things that he can do, and only quantifies having 1:1 help and 3 mornings a YEAR from a specialised teacher. Everything else is just "help with" "overlearning" "focus on".

If there are things in the EHCP that are inaccurate this needs to be challenged. If it says he can't do things that he can, it sounds to me as though they are using outdated information.

The EHCP needs to be accurate and informed by up to date reports from everyone. I would chase up the new OT report and ask for him to be seen by SALT asap.

How old is the EP report? If it is no longer accurate, your son needs to be assessed again. I would ask for a report from the specialist teacher too.Who recommended 3 mornings a year from a specialised teacher Shock. What use is that going to be?

When you have all the reports go through them with a fine tooth comb and ensure all the needs identified are listed in Part B of the EHCP and all the specific provision/support recommended by the professionals to meet these needs are in section F.

Oh and watch the time scales OP. LAs are notorious for delaying tactics. The final EHCP should be issued at the latest, 20 weeks from the date you first requested assessment.

drspouse · 27/04/2019 15:36

20 weeks is next week and they are going to panel then. We are updating this weekend. EP was Dec.
I have a phone call from IPSEA advice line booked.

OT say their report has been sent, LEA say it hasn't arrived.

I would ask OT for a copy of the report.
