Hi,
My DD goes to a SS. This is her second year there after moving from MS.
The school's intake is very varied from profound learning disabilities to moderate.
The main reason we chose this school is because of the peer group she would have and that has been great. My DD is high functioning but struggles with learning, I would describe her as having moderate learning disability, but this has not been diagnosed as such.
When we chose the school we were told by the Headteacher that the LA had agreed (or asked the school, not sure who started it) to a new school being built on site for children with moderate learning disabilities. The headteacher said before we joined and since then has said 'for children like DD'.
The first children are being moved in to the new school and DD is not one of them. This has not been communicated at all, I have found out as DD has said that X and Y are moving classes.
I saw the HT and asked about my DD and she was fairly evasive and said that they had not had criteria from LA yet, and that there would be extra children from outside the school coming in.
I have concerns that DD is not going to go to the new school, but her peer group will and therefore the reason for choosing the school will be lost.
My other worry is that we are in a different LA to the school. Can the LA of the school insist that children from their LA are placed above children outside the LA? I have real concerns that DD should be in the new school but won't be as we are outside of the LA. Can this happen?
I am getting really anxious about this. After years of fighting for DD having her in MS that was stressful and finding a school that works, I feel like I am back in a position of having to fight again.
Thanks.
