So son with asd and adhd. Been in special school since age 8 and transferred this school year to mainstream college. He has 1:1 support and is just about to complete 2 a levels and a btec.
He's applied to uni and has 5 interviews BUT he doesn't feel ready. He's struggled socially this year to the point he's now not attending classes and is studying in the unit at the college.
He's got a good job and wants to save but as a single mum I can't support him if he doesn't go uni.
He's asked if he can stay at college for one more year.
He will be 19 in July so I'm not sure if he can although he does have an ehcp.
He figures he would do another btec to boost his ucas points. This means he doesn't have to stress about boosting his alevels (certain of Cs) and will give him another year to work and save and focus on life skills ready for uni.
Is this possible? What do other parents think??

I think this sounds like a really sensible idea, and the fact your DS has suggested it himself is fantastic.
I would contact the LA and college to discuss.
