Good morning!

My name is Lorna, I am a postgraduate researcher at Heriot-Watt University researching the transition to secondary school and mental health experiences of autistic children.

Firstly, apologies if this is not the right place to post this, I seldom use forums to do this and am happy to delete this post if it's not appropriate, just let me know!

I am currently running an interview study looking at autistic young people's experience of the transition to secondary school in the UK and its impact on their psychological well-being. I am looking to interview autistic children aged between 12 and 18, who have experienced the transition from primary to secondary school in the UK. I am based in Edinburgh and could do face-to-face interviews there and in surrounding areas, or via Skype (or other) if you are based somewhere else in the UK.

The aim of this study is to identify factors that influence mental health outcomes during the transition to secondary school, in partnership with autistic young people. This will allow me to do further studies looking at factors which are important to autistic young people and their families, and hopefully get a better understanding of what contributes to good and poor mental health outcomes. In turn, this will hopefully contribute to the development of appropriate support and interventions for these young people which will improve their mental health.
The study has been approved by Heriot-Watt University's School of Social Sciences' Ethics Committee.

If you are interested or would like more information, you can email me at [email protected]. Don't hesitate to get in touch should you have any questions about this study.

Thank you for your time!

Lorna Camus
