They have written to dd consultant 5 weeks ago. Has anyone ever rung up for progress and has anyone ever been told decision over phone. Just curious to know if I have to get ready for an appeal.

When I applied for ds2 I phoned several times to find out what was happening. It was mainly because they had taken so long to do anything with the claim though. When they eventually made their decision in the October it had to be backdated to April. They would tell me things like "We're just waiting to hear back from X" or "The person handling the claim is still looking at it" but didn't tell me the decision over the phone.

Rung loads of times - like CT they usually tell you where they're at with it, who they are waiting to hear from. Never had a decision over the phone.

I was given ds's first decision over the phone, without soliciting it myself. They just rang to say the cheque would be paid into my account and the paperwork would follow.

Yes to both the progress report, and to getting the decision on the phone.

Dd's consultants would NOT give a report, despite several attempts from the DWP to get hold of them. I rang them every couple of weeks to see if they'd heard anything.

I rang them the last time to let them know that dd had received her major buggy from wheelchair services, and the DWP guy went quiet... then told me that they had already made a decision and she wasn't going to get DLA.
Although it was a shock, it was better that way. He put me straight through to another department, and the woman went through why dd didn't get DLA. I am now in the process of appealing.

IMO there's no harm in chasing them up if they seem to be taking ages, and it does say on the forms to let them know if the situation changes (like ours did).
