SN schools in Mansfield

My DS (6) has a diagnosis of ASD, his main struggles are speech and language related and is considered high functioning.
He has managed at a main stream school relatively well, however, he will need to attend a more suitable setting for next academic year.

We are looking to move to Mansfield to be nearer family, does anyone have any recommendations for specialist schools?

Also would love to know how easy/hard Nottinghamshire Local Authority is to deal with?
Bucks (our current LA) have been awful!

Thank you in advance!

Hi. I've named changed for this so that I don't out what local authority I am.

If there is a chance you could move to somewhere that falls within the Nottingham City boundary, rather than Nottinghamshire, I would do that.

Much harder to get a plan in Nottinghamshire (lots of illegal 'criteria' they apply as gatekeeping), plus majority of their plans are written by an external agency and not worth the paper they are written on.

City team far better and all plans written in house.

That said, I do know people who have ok EHCPs in Notts - you just have to know the law and your rights.

I don't know a huge amount about specialist provisions in Mansfield. There are Nottingham and Nottinghamshire ASD Facebook support groups that you could join (they are private) and some more local to Mansfield people might be able to help you out.

Check Ipsea's website before you apply.

Good luck!

Thank you for your reply.

My son has an EHCP and has remained at a mainstream school thus far, however, I am under no illusion and neither are the school that he isn't reaching anywhere near his potential due to lack of resources and specialists, number of pupils in class etc.
When his review comes up in March the LA will offer him a place at a school which is entirely unsuitable for him, already been through this once and had mediation.

Hoping to get our move underway and some possible school recommendations so I can avoid the back and to with our LA (who couldn't be more disinterested if they tried) Hmm

I'll check out those FB groups.

Thanks again!
