Hello, I’m new here but looking for some advice! Forgive me if this is long winded.
My son is 2 and has a chromosome disorder which has affected his development and speech. He had been attending nursery but they’ve said he needs 1:1 support. We’ve had a real struggle getting funding for this as we live on a council boundary and he attends a nursery “outside of our area” (even though it’s 10 mins away)
He is entitled to 15 hours free childcare because he receives DLA. We have eventually got funding from the authority where the Nursery is but they’re only offering us 11.25 hours a week (termtime).
As a result if we want him to be in nursery 15 hours a week as he was before we would need to pay for the 3.75 hour shortfall ourselves (@ £8.10 ph)
I’m new to all of this. Is this just how it is? I feel a bit frustrated that I feel like I’m being charged extra because my son has additional needs. If he’s entitled to 15 hours shouldn’t his 1:1 support match this?
Any advice greatly received! I’m so clueless about all of this.
