Sooo, ASD and going on a Cruise?!

Would this be a really bad idea?! I don’t think she’d find it unsettling and she enjoys holidays, it’s more noise, tannoy announcements, poss fire drills etc 😬 xx

Dd is High Functioning

For us it’s the ideal holiday.

We can always get back to the cabin

We can have the same table and waiter every night

We can get the food he wants

We can always find somewhere quiet to hide

staff have always been brilliant too. It’s the only kind of overseas holiday I would consider for him. No flying either

Do they make loud tannoy announcements or always perform one fire drill? 😬

By law they have to do one practise muster before they leave. Thankfully the time and what happens is well published so doesn’t cause us any issues.

The only tannoy announcements I remember are ones around the pool about activities and not that loud.

Lots of cruise companies also have people whose job it is to support any passengers who has any additional needs or requirements and they are great at being able to accommodate anything you think may help (specific tables, servers, certain foods etc).

Most companies now also have minimal tannoy announcements. The Muster Drill is really really noisy and busy, and mandatory, but you will know when it is and Guest Services may be able to help to suggest some things that can help (like getting to your station before the bell sounds and before the other guests arrive etc).

Cruising is quite timetabled and structured, and other than the pool deck on a sea day often loads of quiet places. The American lines (like Norwegian, Disney and Royal Carribbean) have good guest services for people with ASD.
