I’ve finally sent off the DLA renewal forms, now I’m worried I’m late. They came ages ago and renewal is Jan 2019.

Also she’s had MRC. Dreading losing it. She’s 6.

She has autism, but not in school so only a 3 yr old report. No SLT as not given for home Ed.

Discharged from dietician, though still huge food issues at normal weight.

Refused hearing aid so no recent tests

Epilepsy clinic a few reports, but diagnosis not formalised on paper.

Discharged from physio years ago, but more poor motor skills. V mild hemiplegia

REALLY nervous about getting it, which would have a massive impact on what we access due to so many places allowing carers. She needs 1:1 outside, on the train or to join in stuff. She does go rainbows as her only activity but with a buddy system and adult support, otherwise it’s impossible to find places for her

Sorry, to clarify- she refuses to wear hearing aids as she is noise sensitive

I would say that generally speaking it seems to be how you’ve worded the form rather than the evidence or diagnosis. So hopefully if you’ve filled in the form as fully as possible and gone into detail about the extra care she needs it should be okay. If renewal isn’t until Jan there is plenty of time for them to look at it - our renewal took about 6/8 weeks.

I used the cerebra guide... then scared myself reading horror stories online!

The thing is people always post when there’s a problem, they never post when it all goes straightforwardly. I have lots of friends who have applied for dla and we’ve all had no issues at all. Hopefully it will be fine.

Rationally, last time was v smooth. I think the process just worries me

Don’t hesitate to apply. When I was applying for DLA for my son I filled out as much as possible. I included lots of details and information on the diagnosis and his disability on the form. I mentioned his need for a wheelchair and braces as well as therapy sessions and doctor appointments. Use the form to tell them all about your child and how much the diagnosis impacts your family etc. Answer all the questions truthfully.

SloeBerri

My sons is up for renewal Jan 2019, we sent ours off 1st October, so 5 weeks ago now not heard anything at all, I have just sent more evidence in (his ehcp) a few days ago and phoned to let them know & she checked while I was on the phone and said it hadn't even been allocated to a decision maker yet so can imagine it will be a while before we hear.

Keep us updated & I'll do the same

SloeBerri · 04/11/2018 20:26

Ah thanks, I will do. I phoned too- wasn’t told if allocated. Jus told ‘we have to say 8 weeks but it may be much sooner’. Didn’t know to ask about if it was allocated

@SloeBerri did you hear yet? We had our renewal decision this week. Took 7 weeks in total, we sent form on 1st October.

Touch wood ive had no problems renewing dla for around 10yrs now.

SloeBerri · 03/01/2019 17:04

Well, it took a LONG time but decision was made yesterday (it ran out today!!). 5 year award for hrc and lrm. I was quite floored. It’s quite life-changing what she’ll be able to access, what we can do and a peace of mind until she’s 11.

that's great news. We have been advised to apply for DS he has dyspraxia and may have other overlapping splds, speech, mild eye problem bladder dysfunction.

I didnt even know it was an option for us. The 60 page application quite daunting, but it will open doors for us to help him if we get it. Need to save up to get him help with EHCP request too...

Whoever thought being a parent would require full time secretarial duties....
