Hi, I am new to this and am hoping to find others who can help.... my 10 year old has got a diagnosis for ASD and he has Sensory Processing difficulties. He is in mainstream school and although he gets SEN Support it is for SEMH and has one ELSA session a week. He had a really disrupted Year 5; his teacher kept having time off sick and he was picked on by two boys over a period of time. He started school refusing a month before the summer holidays. Since coming back to school in September he has managed 3 days in school. His anxiety is through the roof and he can't manage to wear his school uniform due to the sensory problems. The school are saying that they can support him if he is in school but I can't get him in. I have emailed and spoken to the local authority case worker who seems to be happy with what the school are saying. Could I apply for an EHCP? Where do I go from here? Any advice is gratefully received; j am bashing my head against a brick wall at he moment. X

Your son is refusing school because of his high anxiety levels. His anxiety levels are through the roof because school is not meeting his needs, whatever they say. If the school says it can meet needs the LA won't want to know.

You can apply for an EHC Needs Assessment yourself.Lots of info here:

Be aware that a lot of LAs turn parents down first time, than back down once you appeal.Hmm
