Hello does anyone have any knowledge of whether children with EHCP are streamed into the lower set automatically when starting secondary school?

I don't know of schools that do 'streaming' rather than 'setting for individual subjects', so can't speak specifically for them, but this is going to depend on what the EHCP is for, surely ?
If it is for cognition and learning, then the likelihood is that, in any assessment the school used, their results would indicate lower set. If it is for a physical or medical or emotional need, then why would they ?

My DS Has an EHCP of 25 hrs he has a right Hemiplegia, so has difficulty with fine motor skills.
He has been put in a class with 3 other children, who have varying needs and learning difficulties. It seems that for staffing and funding the school, group children with sen together.

My son has just started mainstream secondary with an EHCP and he is in the top set. I was worried he’d be streamed lower down because of the support he needs but he wasn’t.

That’s really positive to hear, do you know know what they based their decision on as to which set your son was put in?

A combination of sats results and some sort of online test they did - a CAT test maybe?
