dd1 is 8 and has from an early age tended to 'stim'. Apart from this and being a bit dreamy, no one has ever mentioned SN or autism to us. I suppose I am a bit wary as dd2 has SLD and ex h has (imo!) AS type traits. She has lately increased the amount of time she is stimming. She says she wants to stop but seems to need it as a sort of relaxation time (she tends to sit and spin or flick objects for long periods of time and refuses all attempts by me to interact with her).
I am worried but from reading internet it seems that stimming is actually beneficial to some extent to those who need it - ie being relaxing/letting off tension etc.
Should I worry and if so, what should I do? It seems to be impossible to distract her from it when she is determined to stim. Thanks.
