Worries about DS's friends

Hi all. Not posted on MN since DS was a non sleeping baby. He's now almost 8 and is a very wriggly, intense boy who is struggling with reading and writing. His comprehension is great and he's inquisitive and often had great insight.

My main worries are his ability to maintain friendships. He's had a great but shall group of friends but through Y2 he has been struggling. We're about to go back to school and he's been taking more and more about how his friends won't let him play with him anymore and he spends breaktime wandering alone (probably talking to himself as he makes up stories which I imagine doesn't help). He's tried asking other children to play but I don't think he gets anywhere.

Over the summer we've seen him interacting with other kids and he's a bit much. I'm going to find out the results of a psychological assessment next week which has been primarily driven by his reading and writing issues (think this may be a visual processing issue). I feel I'm scrutinising him all the time. He's just a bit different but I don't know if this means he has SN or not. He's on the radar of the SENCO and goes to sensory circuits but nothing is labelled. I just want to dump a little (I know I am stressing way too much about the playground stuff) but also ask for advice on how to support him particularly with dealing with being left out. Hope this is an appropriate place to post. Thanks xx
