Hello everyone

I am Debbie 31 years old married to Scott 33 years old i have a daughter Ricarda age 14, a 22 month old son Callum and a 7 day old son Cameron.

Cameron has been diagnoised with Downs syndrome which wasn't picked up at birth, in fact his midwife couldn't see anything wrong herself and neither did the first baby doctor to come out but after she thought he had a clicky hip and called another doctor he icked up on it, so for the grand total of 5 hours we had a normal healthy baby with nothing wrong but that was soon to be shattered.

Anyway they took bloods that day and the results were back today and he does indeed have downs syndrome, i thought i had prepared myself for the truth but i still found myself shocked and upset when they said that he has downs. It seems so daunting and overwhelming i am not sure where my head is but i cant take everything in at the moment, i try to concentrate on what they are saying but all i see is the mouths moving!

My little Cameron is still my perfect little angel regardless of what disorder he has! He is beautiful to me.

Love Debbie and Cameron xxxx

just as everyone else has said - the echo is just like an ultrasound where they have a smaller handpiece and use it as you would scan a pregnant woman's belly. They do all sorts of things like colour the blood etc to check for the blood flow and so on. Our dd slept through all her early ones although the one early this year ( now she is 2) was not so easy - she wanted to see the screen and see what the doctor was doing.

ECG - just some tabs fixed to points on the baby's body and gives a readout of the heartbeat etc.

It seems very technical etc - what the docs do but then they always tell you in layman's terms what it means....

Blu mentioned some support groups - we found the down's heart group brilliant and the lady who 'founded' the group is just lovely - listened to me rave on the phone for ages just prior to dd's surgery.

So sorry to hear about what you have been through already .....

all the best

Debs: yes, you really are going through it. Do call the helplline on the link below, as Eidsvold says. They can talk you through all the language, as well as listening to all your feelings. They have all been through it themselves. And keep posting here, too, of course.
XXXXXXXX and thinking of you.

have you read Welcoming Babies with Down Syndrome yet? Have tissues ready, it's beautiful and so touching.
